DIVE SHOW LAUNCH SPECIAL - THE FIRST 10 COPIES SOLD ONLINE WILL BE SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR HOWARD HIMSELF !
Divers in Plymouth have wrote a book in which they say they have found the wreck of a 300 year old VOC shipwreck.
The ship a Dutch East Indiaman “Aaktekerke” lays smashed and battered near a cliff inside Plymouth sound.
In the book BLIND FAITH which is out at the end of October, they have printed photos of their finds, their clues, charts and themselves diving on the ships cannons.
The “Aaktekerke “was a massive ship with a 250 man crew and 40 cannons she, weighed nearly 1000 tonnes, loaded with treasure. She was on her maiden voyage having just set sail from Holland, after taking five years to build, only to be wreck within a couple of weeks. The book claims the Plymouth locals did not come to the rescue of the ship in distress, far from it! They came to kill, rob and plunder a mob intent on doing whatever they could to get their hands on this very rich ship.
The VOC which stands for Verenigde Oostindische Company The Dutch East India Company. This was the largest and most powerful company of all time. Carrying out thousands of voyages across vast oceans.
During their 300 year history many hundreds of ships where wreck, but only a few have ever been found. Have they found a ship that was sunk off Plymouth in 1721, the Aatekerke? You will have to read the book and make up your own mind.
